(G)I-DLE’s Soojin’s Bullying Controversy
Regarding this controversy, it started on February 20th, 2021. At that time, there was a netter (called A) who accused Soojin of bullying in the past. The netter (A) leaked that Soojin had bullied A’s sister by saying that Soojin had slapped her sister, also took her money. Suddenly, there another person (netter B) appeared who also claimed to have been a victim and has been bullied by Soojin. That person confessed that Soojin once forced B to drink something that Soojin had opened before and she also took B’s money. Even, the netter revealed that Soojin often took and borrowed other students’ uniforms and didn’t give them back. Based on the confession of netter (B), (G)I-DLE’s Soojin was stubborn and naughty, she used to noisily wander around town riding a motorbike with older boys while drinking alcohol and smoking. There are so many heinous accusations directed at Soojin.
(G)I-DLE’s Soojin’s Agency’s Statement Release
On February 22nd, 2021, (G)I-DLE’s agency (CUBE Entertainment) released its statement regarding the issue. The agency denied that Soojin has bullied her schoolmates. CUBE Entertainment will always be monitoring the issue and take legal actions to protect their artist. They also said: “The commission is in the process of filing several lawsuits. Cube Entertainment only confirmed that they (Soojin and Seo Shin-ae) had an argument on the phone. A month after Soojin’s agency released the statement, actress Seo Shin-ae spoke up about the rumor through her Instagram @seoshinae. The actress admitted that she was bullied by Soojin during middle school. Furthermore, Seo Shin-ae admitted that whenever she met Soojin with her gang in the hallway and the cafeteria, they would always say unpleasant words and giggle which caused great trauma for Shin-ae. Shin Ae uploaded a post on her Instagram story saying: “None of your excuse.”
(G)I-DLE’s Soojin’s Statement and Hiatus
After the rumors exploded, Soojin responded to the news and she admitted that she never talked in person to Seo Shin-ae at the school. She said: “I don’t know anything about Seo Shin-ae, and this is the first time I’ve heard the rumors about me and her. I never bluffed or curse behind her back.” (March 19th, 2021). Previously, on March 4th, 2021, the agency announced that Soojin would stop her activities with (G)I-DLE temporarily (hiatus). The announcement read: “Currently, Soojin has stopped all activities, and (G)I-DLE will continue to promote their new song with five members.”
Soojin’s Departure From (G)I-DLE
After going through a long process of trying to meet the victims, on August 14th, 2021, CUBE Entertainment announced that Soojin officially left (G)I-DLE. Soojin’s departure from (G)I-DLE marked the end of this bullying controversy that surfaced in February 2021. Actually, the agency had decided a long time ago. Cube Entertainment’s decision to expel Soojin was related to the sum of all the circumstances, where she was previously on hiatus from the group. This had a bad impact on (G)I-DLE during their promotions. Because of the announcement, there were different responses from fans. Some of them are supportive and ask for justice for Soojin, but there are also people who are happy that Soojin was expelled.
