Debut with F.T. Island
Minhwan started his career by becoming the drummer and maknae of F.T. Island in 2007. The band made an extraordinary debut with their mini-album Cheerful Sensibility with the single “Love Sick” as the lead single. F.T. Island are also considered as the first South Korean band to have released quite a large number of hit singles, such as “After Love”, “Bad Woman”, “I Hope”, “Hello Hello”, “Thunder”, “Until You Come Back”, and many more. Other than that, F.T. Island also spread their wings into the Japanese market by releasing their first Japanese project Prologue of F.T. Island: Soyogi in 2008. But, the group started getting more recognition in Japan through their third studio album Five Treasure Island which was released in 2011. Not only in Japan, but F.T. Island also became very famous in other countries where they have held tour concerts, such as Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Along the way, Minhwan and F.T. Island established their existence and popularity as a high-quality South Korean band. The back and forth journey between South Korea and Japan also gained them even more recognition. Although, currently, the group only consists of three members, including Minhwan, their journey in the K-Pop music industry is still ongoing.
Active in F.T. Island’s Subunit F.T. Triple
In 2009, Minhwan joined the F.T. Island subunit F.T. Triple with groupmates Jonghoon and Jaejin. The subunit released the hit single “Love Letter” which managed to gain a lot of attention. “Love Letter” was included on F.T. Island’s album titled Double Date. Within the subunit, Minhwan was in charge of the drummer and sub-vocalist position. F.T. Triple used to be named A3, since the three members of the group have A as their blood type. The subunit was also formed to emphasize their individual vocal skills, as well as continue F.T. Island’s activity while Lee Hong-ki was busy with his filming schedule, while Seunghyun was taking a break for a while.
Love Story and Married Life With Former Idol Group Member Yul-hee
In September 2017, Minhwan and ex-LABOUM member Yulhee‘s relationship was confirmed by FNC Entertainment. After several months of dating, Yulhee found out that she was pregnant. It was quite hard for them since they were busy with their schedules as K-Pop artists. People were also really surprised when Yulhee reported her pregnancy outside of marriage. However, Minhwan is definitely a responsible guy. He is the one who insisted on raising their children together. So, the two of them decided to take care of their child and advanced their relationship into marriage. Yulhee decided to leave LABOUM, while Minhwan remained in F.T. Island. After Yulhee gave birth to their first child in May 2018, finally, the two of them tied the knot in October 2018, which made Minhwan the first F.T. Island member to get married. Their wedding ceremony was held privately, and was attended by family, close friends, and F.T. Island members as well. Their married life is fulfilled with a lot of happiness, especially with their children. In February 2020, Yulhee and Minhwan welcomed their twin daughters happily. Currently, Minhwan is actively pursuing a career as a musician and actor, as well as a husband for Yulhee. Even though he has several work schedules, Minhwan also takes care of his children very well. In February 2020, Minhwan went to military service as a reserve soldier.
