With all his modeling and acting skills, he has won and been nominated for many awards. He manages to balance his career and keeps developing as an artist. However, as a Korean citizen, he has to fulfill the duty of military service for around two years. He has enlisted and is now serving for Korean citizens. When did he enter the military service? How is he now? Channel-Korea will give you a rundown containing details about Lee Jong-suk’s military service and his latest drama before enlisting.
Military Enlistment
Earlier this year, Lee Jong-suk was first rumored to have enlisted in the military on February 28th, 2019. His agency, A-Man Project, then quickly responded that it was a piece of false information because the actor himself hadn’t received any notification letter from the military regarding the enlistment date. But they did expect him to be enlisted in the first half of this year so they planned to wrap up his recent drama as fast as possible. They added information about his military service that he would be a public service worker due to his past injury. The actor suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and damaged one of his knees permanently from a car accident when he was in middle school. He was deemed unfit to be an active duty soldier so it was decided that he would be a public service worker. Near the end of February, the agency confirmed the artist’s official date of enlistment, that is March 8th, 2019. “Lee Jong-suk will begin his military service on March 8th as a public service worker. He will carry out his duties to the country in good faith,” said the agency, as translated by Koreaboo. He was still filming the drama Romance Is A Bonus Book partnered with actress Lee Na-young. He would complete his scenes by February 27th, way earlier than his other fellow cast members, who would finish them in early March, due to his upcoming military enlistment. On March 8th, 2019, Lee Jong-suk officially enlisted. He made his way towards the entrance with three of his managers. Although his military service location was not revealed as the artist wanted to enlist quietly, many reporters and fans were gathered in the military district office where he went to submit and sign some documents. Because of that, he signed the documents in the underground parking lot instead of the office. He was seen covered under his hood and kept his head low. He did not say anything to the reporters as he walked to the center. As cited by Soompi, the agency said that the district where he would serve was not the one where he signed the documents but other affiliated organization. “After signing, he went to his service location,” they added. The actor is expected to be discharged from the military on January 2nd, 2021.
Latest Drama Before Enlisting: Romance Is A Bonus Book
As we mentioned before, he managed to film a romantic-comedy drama titled Romance Is A Bonus Book (Hangul: 로맨스는 별책부록) right before his enlistment. He starred the drama along with actress Lee Na-young. The 16-episode drama aired from January 26th until March 17th, 2019, on tvN and is now available on Netflix as well. It was Lee Na-young’s first comeback to the TV screen after nine years and Lee Jong-suk’s first romantic-comedy drama.
