EXO’s Debut Date
Their first performances was on December 29, 2011, on SBS’s Gayo Daejeon. After that, sub-groups Exo-K and Exo-M debuted with the single Mama on April 8, 2012, from the EP Mama on April 9. Exo-K and Exo-M promoted the album separately. On the same day, Exo-K appeared on the South Korean music program The Music Trend and Exo-M performed on the Top Chinese Music Awards in Shenzhen.
On December 22nd, 2011, SM released a teaser for member Kai. In the teaser, Kai was in an electrical vibrations background, through a Gothic Victorian schema. He danced with some music behind it that showed heavy influences of R&B, jazz, and blues. The music highlighted his dancing with its flowing and sharp movements. The teaser received a positive response and Kai’s performance and skilled dancing likewise received positive feedback. The momentum for the group’s debut started building with the release of this teaser.
On December 27th, 2011, SM released a teaser for member Lu Han, featuring Kai, the member who had been previously introduced. In this teaser, showing how they danced together in a red material installation blended with hype and hip-hop music. Some of the responses from the public expressed disappointment on Kai’s appearance but, overall, fans had a positive response to this teaser. SM also released a teaser for member Tao. This teaser was showing him in wushu and dao to a rock, hip-hop blend. The same as with the previous teaser, some fans wondered about his performance in martial arts, and whether it would be used or not.
On January 11th, 2012, SM released a teaser that brought positiveness rather than pessimism. The teaser showed Lu Han and Se Hun in a simple landscape, with designation motifs through a simple piano and drum melody.
On January 16th, 2012, SM finally released a teaser for member Lay. This teaser was showing characteristics like no other, showing Lay dancing to dark hype and hip-hop music.
On January 24th, 2012, Xiumin was introduced by SM Entertainment, also featuring Kai.
EXO’s Debut Songs
This first EXO debut song magnetized people to enjoy their music. Their talent in singing and dancing is nothing to doubt. The song was different and catchy, and they were predicted to be kind of a TVSQ boy-band group in a positive way. More than that, they offered music which was more diverse and energetic.

EXO’s Xiumin has already completed his basic training in the military service and was promoted to be an assistant instructor in his army division. There is a source from the army who stated to Sports Chosunon June 13, “Xiumin completed his five-week basic military training at the Nodo recruit training center in Yanggu County of Gangwon Province today and took part in a completion ceremony. For the remainder of his military service, he will be serving as an assistant instructor.” The chance to become an assistant instructor is a result of showing physical strength and high scores, so it means that Xiumin received excellent scores during his basic training. Baekhyun was scheduled to release a solo debut album on June 10, 2019. It was a really exciting moment because this is his first solo album since he debuted as a member of EXO seven years ago. SM Entertainment then confirmed, “Baekhyun is currently preparing a solo album. He plans to release it sometime in July.” Baekhyun has proved his skills by doing many drama OST songs featuring various artists including Suzy, K.Will, and Loco.
