Debut as BOYFRIEND Member
BOYFRIEND was formed by Starship Entertainment in 2011, with six members: Donghyun, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, Youngmin, Kwangmin, and Minwoo. Their music genre was dance, and they debuted using the pretty-boy concept, however, their stage performance was strong and powerful. BOYFRIEND released three albums within seven months after their debut. The six-member boy-band debuted on M! Countdown on May 26th, 2011. Their debut single was titled Boyfriend. The lead single for their debut album wasn’t particularly well-received by K-pop lovers, but their second single, titled You & I, receive better feedback from music critics. On December 8, 2011, BOYFRIEND released their third single, titled I’ll Be There. The single peaked in the number two position on music charts. In 2012, BOYFRIEND was contracted with the Japanese entertainment company, Being, and released a Japanese album titled We Are Boyfriend in June 2012. Their Japanese debut showcase was held in the famous Nippon Budokan Indoor Arena.
Group Disbandment and Future Plans
BOYFRIEND disbanded eight years after their debut. On May 17th, 2019, Starship Planet announced the disbandment. The agency compiled all the images from their debut day until disbandment day and uploaded the images to the internet. All of the images showed the happiest moments of BOYFRIEND. Starship Planet stated that the agency sincerely thanked BOYFRIEND for being their artist and for showing their passion. Online media responded by saying that throughout their active career, BOYFRIEND entertained fans with powerful performances and their pretty-boy image.
Becoming YouTuber With Jo Twins
Minwoo promoted his latest variety show project, called Project Rouge, on July 12th, 2019. On the promotion stage, he revealed his latest activities since his group disbandment. Minwoo is working on a YouTube channel called Boyland. He collaborated with fellow BOYFRIEND members, the Jo Twins, Kwangmin and Yongmin. He said “Three of us wanted to greet our fans but our chance became limited therefore we set up a YouTube channel. We posted our daily activities and share our thoughts and opinion”. The trio set up and joined YouTube on May 22, 2019. As of January 2020, they’ve gathered more than 650,000 views. On their YouTube channel, they shared Mukbang challenge videos. Some of their videos were supplemented with Japanese and English subtitles. In one of their videos, the trio shared a question and answer video session. They shared their honest answers and opinions to questions about their feelings after disbandment to the reason behind setting up the YouTube channel.

Min Woo, Kwangmin, Yongmin, and three others idols announced their internet variety program called Pretty Rouge. Pretty Rouge was broadcast on Cube TV, Comedy TV, and K Star from July 12th until September 27th, 2019. Pretty Rouge was an all-idol-member variety program that revealed each of the members’ childhood days. All the cast members were best friend of the same, and they told viewers about their dreams and worries truthfully. Minwoo and the Jo twins regularly upload videos of their activities and favorite food on their YouTube channel.
