Appearance on MBC’s SEVENTEEN Project: Big Debut Plan
Before Seventeen’s debut, the group starred in the reality show titled Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan. In accordance with the title of the event, this show shows us how Seventeen prepares their project for their debut. Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan (Hangul: 데뷔 대작전) is a 2015 reality show created by Pledis Entertainment and Mnet. It is a male idol debut project with the concept of winning the trainees versus Pledis survival. The show was concluded with the group’s debut showcase which featured songs that had been written and performed by subunits in the previous episodes. While Seventeen was being formed, it was more than obvious that Seung Cheol would be the leader, as he had been a trainee for the longest amount of time, and he had a serious ambition when it came to performing and delivering. He appeared in the reality TV show Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan, broadcasted on MBC between May 2nd and May 26th, 2015.
DEBUT AS A MEMBER OF SEVENTEEN
Finally, after the boys completed the mission in Seventeen Project, they were scheduled to debut on May 26th, 2015, with the final line-up (13 members) with their songs “Adore U” and “Shining Diamond”. Different from other boy groups, Seventeen is divided into three units, namely Hip-Hop, Vocal, and Performance. Seung-cheol is in the Hip-Hop line as the leader. He is also the leader of the whole team after all. As the agency promised, Seventeen debuted on May 26th, 2015, with the song “Adore U,” through a live broadcast program that aired on MBS. The song is the title track of Seventeen’s first mini-album titled 17 Carat. The debut was successful. Seventeen released their second mini-album Boys Be on September 10th, 2015. “Mansae” became the main song that they promoted on various Korean music shows. By having the concept of a group with energetic and refreshing young men, Seventeen managed to steal the attention of female teenage fans. So it’s not surprising when they were in debut year, the boys won many trophies at various big award events in South Korea, such as the Golden Disk Awards, Seoul Music Awards, and the Gaon K-pop Chart Awards.
