KARD Renew Their Contract With DSP Media In 2022
On July 7, 2022, DSP Media made a triumphant announcement that made fans happy. All of the KARD members have been revealed to have decided to extend their exclusive contracts with DSP Media. DSP Media mentioned that BM, J.Seph, Somin, and Jeon Jiwoo extended their contract with the agency for 3 years. DSP Media itself promised to assist all KARD activities at home and abroad. “Recently, we discussed KARD’s vision and the possibilities for each member’s future activities. Based on mutual trust and loyalty, all parties formed a bond of empathy in terms of the image that KARD hoped to show as a group and as an individual, and all members chose to renew their contract for 3 years,” explained DSP Media. “DSP Media plans to fully support KARD so that the group can continue to promote actively both in Korea and abroad,” promised KARD’s agency. KARD’s decision was undoubtedly welcomed positively by fans. Not a few did not think that this group with mixed gender members decided to extend their contract with DSP Media.
KARD ‘s Comeback With “Ring The Alarm” After Contract Renewal
KARD made their first comeback in a long time and was attended by the members. KARD together appeared at the showcase event for their album “Re:” on June 22, 2022. BM, J.Seph, Somin, and Jiwoo announced their comeback by holding a showcase to commemorate the release of the new mini album “Re:” at Yonsei University’s Centennial Memorial Hall in Seoul. When asked about the new song “Ring The Alarm”, KARD unanimously said that this album has a sexy theme. “It’s been a long time since I made an album, so I wanted to show a refreshing musical color. I wanted to show a mature and sexy, refreshing aura,” said Somin.
As is well known, the song “Ring The Alarm” is a song that puts the exciting Mumbaton genre at the forefront where KARD is most confident. The mood for fun in this new time is described by rhythmic bass, synthesizers, and guitar sounds with a summer vibe.
KARD Contract Ended And 7-Year Curse
K-Pop idol groups usually have an initial contract with their agency for 7 years. This follows South Korean government regulations that celebrity contracts are a maximum of 7 years. This contract then gave rise to the so-called “7-year curse”. The reason is, after 7 years, many idols have decided to leave the agency or even their group has been declared disbanded. KARD’s Somin was also dragged into the Hyunjoo bullying case. The reason is, that she was known to have debuted in APRIL before and was also suspected of being a bully. However, Somin indirectly denied the accusations. Meanwhile, KARD itself is known to have officially debuted in July 2016. This means that KARD is still entering the age of 6 years. So, there is a possibility of 4 KARD members extending their contracts by a year sooner. However, of course, this cannot be ascertained considering that the number of contract periods for idols is different for each agency.
KARD’s Future Plan If They Are Disbanding
Regarding solo activities, BM debuted as a soloist on June 9, 2021, released his 1st solo single titled “Broke Me” and became a cast member of the podcast series. J.Seph also had many activities during his enlisted in the military service since he joined the Korean Army Musical (메이사의노래). Somin also is a talented member. She debuted as a member of APRIL before re-debuting again as KARD’s member. She also featured in other musician songs, such as Super Junior’s “Lo Siento”, EPIK HIGH’s “Born Hater”, Pentagon’s Hui’s “Swim Good” and more. After all, she’s known as a great female singer. Jiwoo also has participated in Mnet’s ‘Good Girl’ as a contestant and showed off her talents as a great rapper and dancer in the show. It means that she has the possibility of becoming a mentor and teaching rookie idols in the future. That was all for the information about KARD’s disbandment and their contract in 2022 that was already renewed with the agency.
