The rise of the K-Pop entertainment world has meant that more and more young artists were doing activities such as practicing or shooting until the late night. This regulation was carried out by the Korean National Assembly, which has carried out the new law process since January 2014, and it has been in force since July 29, 2014, with the aim of improving working conditions in the local entertainment sector and protecting young artists from excessive work. In this regulation, underage artists and actors have a specific schedule for them to work. In one week, artists under the age of 15 years may not work more than 35 hours. Artists who are 15-18 years old are limited to 40 hours a week. They also cannot work from 10 pm to 6 am, unless the guardian gives their consent. Because of these regulations, even when K-Pop idols are at an event or awards ceremony, the staff will ask them to leave the event at 10 pm. Some of the idols who have to abide by these regulations include, NCT Dream’s Jisung, some of the ITZY and TXT members, and many more. In this article, Channel-Korea will show you several moment when K-Pop idol group members needed to stop their schedule after 10 P.M. So, stay tuned!
NCT’s Jisung’s Early Bedtime During JTBC’s Why Not: The Dancer?
The JTBC program “Why Not: The Dancer” must be familiar to you, right? The dance-themed program features performances by the best K-Pop groups’ dancing machines gathered here. The program was delivered by Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, SHINee’s Taemin, Highlight’s Lee Gi-kwang, and NCT’s Jisung. In one episode, there was a moment that showed that the youngest member, NCT’s Jisung, had to go to bed early before 10 pm, due to government regulations that prohibit the employment of minors after 10 pm, including K-Pop idols. As the Leader and the oldest cast member of JTBC’s program, Eunhyuk should be the leader and guardian of his dongsaeng (Little Brother, in Korean), especially his youngest dongsaeng, NCT’s Jisung. Having an age difference that is almost half of Eunhyuk, their relationship and interactions are very interesting, especially because they are both in the same agency, SM Entertainment. Previously, Jisung told Eunhyuk and Gikwang that he usually goes to sleep before 10 p.m because he is underage. Then Eunhyuk, who heard that, started preparing the bed for Jisung, covered him, and finally rubbed Jisung’s hair gently before Jisung fell asleep. After that, he turned off the lights and left the room so Jisung could sleep soundly. This is the moment when Jisung went to sleep before 10 p.m on JTBC’s “Why Not: The Dancer” with Super Junior’s Eunhyuk!
TXT and ITZY Leave the Melon Music Awards 2019 Early
The Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2019 was held on November 30, 2019. The prestigious music awards event was held at Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul, South Korea, which can accommodate about 20 thousand spectators. TXT and ITZY also enlivened the 2019 Melon Music Awards (MMA) as newcomer groups (Rookie). However, three members from each group were seen leaving the event before it ended. TXT and ITZY sat in sequence at the event, and seemed to enjoy the appearances of other idols, such as Bangtan Boys (BTS) and Chungha. But apparently, before 10 o’clock at night, an MMA staff member politely asked some of the ITZY and TXT members to leave the event. Not without reason; the request was made to comply with the Korean government regulations that were formed in 2014, where underage celebrities must stop working at 10 pm. That was done so that they could get proper sleep and study. By protecting the welfare of underage celebrities and ensuring they do not work too hard, it was hoped that they would create a healthy figure in the environment. Moreover, night crime rates in Korea are also high, and it’s not safe for them. TXT members like Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai seemed to leave the location, leaving Soobin and Yeonjun alone. While ITZY members like Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna also seemed to leave, and only Lia and Yeji were still sitting in their places. Meanwhile, TXT took home one trophy, namely the award for New Artist of the Year for boy groups. ITZY won the same trophy, New Artist of the Year, for the girl groups.
RED VELVET’s Yeri’s Late Debut
Red Velvet is one of the third generation vocal groups from South Korea who successfully expanded into the international world. Their presence had actually been highly anticipated because Red Velvet was SM Entertainment’s first girl group since f(x) was ‘born’ in 2009. On August 1, 2014, Red Velvet debuted with four members, namely Irene (Leader), Wendy (Vocalist), Seulgi (Dancer), and Joy (Youngest Member), with the single Happiness. At that time, they appeared with colorful and cheerful song nuances. In March 2015, the number of Red Velvet members increased. Yeri joined the group and became the youngest member (Maknae). They also made a comeback with the sonsg Ice Cream Cake and Automatic. Since then, Red Velvet has officially consisted of five members. According to rumors, due to the fact that Sulli had left f(x), that group also now had four members, the same number of members as Red Velvet. As a result, Yeri was added to Red Velvet so that the number of members became different. The real reason Yeri was late in joining Red Velvet was because she was very young when the girl group debuted in 2014, and also Yeri was only introduced by SM Entertainment in 2014 as a member of SM Rookies, SM Entertainment’s pre-debut group.
Different Impact From Before After The Rules Rise
Since the stipulations of this regulation in 2014 in South Korea, prohibiting singers and underage workers from working late at night, performing at night, and participating in various activities carried out at night, all underage idols or actresses must leave the stage at 10 pm, without exception. Even if they are holding a concert or attending an event abroad, they still have to leave the stage at exactly 10 PM. This regulation was made by the Korean National Assembly with the aim of improving working conditions in the local entertainment sector and protecting young artists from excessive work. Under the new law, artists who are underage have to be given their mandatory rights, such as time for studying, resting and sleeping. They will be given an exception if they have to do activities that require long distance travel. If anyone breaks the law, they will be punished by paying a fine of $10,000 US Dollars or spending two years in prison. That was all for the information about several moments when K-Pop idol group members needed to stop their schedules after 10 pm. Don’t forget to give your thoughts in the comment below!
