Ji Sung And Hwang Jung-eum’s Chemistry in Secret Love

The first drama that brought Ji Sung and Hwang Jung-eum together is the 2013 drama, Secret Love (Korean: 비밀; RR: Bimil; lit. Secret). The show aired from September 25 to November 14, 2013, on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 KST on KBS2. The drama ran in a total of 16 episodes. Aside from the two main characters, the scene also filled with various star names such as Bae Soo-bin, Lee Da-hee, Lee Deok-hwa , Jo Mi-ryung, Song Min-kyung, Yang Jin-sung, Lee Seung-joon, Choi Woong, Kang Nam-gil, Ahn Ji-hyun, and many other names. The plot of the drama centers around a rich rebel Jo Min-hyuk (Ji Sung), who harbors a romantic feeling toward a naive but tenacious woman Kang Yoo-jung (Hwang Jung-eum) who is the main suspect ‘hit and run’ murder that is her boyfriend’s doing. The drama is filled with dense and confusing secrets. Hwang Jung-eum plays the role of Kang Yoo-jung, who chooses to sacrifice her future by blaming her then-boyfriend Do-hoon’s crime after a ‘hit and run’ murder. After she emerges from prison, she becomes a stronger woman looking for a fresh start and refusing to give in to despair. Meanwhile, Ji Sung plays the role of Jo Min-hyuk, a rich and second-generation chaebol who lacks a pleasant personality and manner. After his girlfriend died in the hit and run accident, he burns with revenge on the culprit. Later, the story gets complicated as he realizes that things are not as seen and develops a romantic feeling to the kind supposed-culprit, Kang Yoo-jung, as she teaches him how to be kind.

There are many things in the drama that deserve praises such as the densely packed mystery plot, the incredible acting, and the characterization. But, one of the things that stood out the most is the strong on-screen chemistry between the ‘Jo Min-hyuk and Kang Yoo-jung couple.’ Both Ji Sung and Hwang Jung-eum prove themselves the top South Korean actor and actress as they act flawlessly. They make us laugh, cry, and scream together through the Jo Min-hyuk and Kang Yoo-jung’s relationship dynamic. Their on-screen moments make our heart thumps and bring back the nostalgia in our minds.
