BTS always has a story to tell. From the beginning, they started with a story about society’s outlook towards youth through their school trilogy. Their song “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” is one of the stories about youth that is focused on dreams, social pressure, and anxiety towards the future. Prior to the debut of BTS on June 13th, 2013, Big Hit Entertainment released a countdown clock with the debut trailer. The countdown along with the video trailer was released on May 21st, 2013. In the trailer, there’s narration with a deep voice along with hip hop music and RM’s voice doing the countdown until BTS’ debut date. It also revealed the members’ names along with the debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool. After the release of the countdown trailer, the image teasers of the members were released on Big Hit Entertainment’s official Facebook and on their website on June 5th, 2013. They also revealed the tracklist for their debut album through Big Hit Entertainment’s Twitter account.
Story of “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2”
Along with their title track “No More Dream,” “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” also talks about dreams and criticism they receive from society. But, through “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2,” BTS throws back the bullet that has been aimed at them. It is narrated by each member, but the story goes strongly as the rappers sing their parts. Jungkook, the maknae, makes a strong intro with his rap that narrates how he has been working hard, giving up his leisure time, and practicing hard for his singing and dancing. The part then turns to Suga who criticizes rappers who rap because they can’t sing and says the title is too extravagant for them. He talks about how he always spends his time composing and writing and only rests when the sun is up. In the chorus, the vocal line- Jin, V, and Jimin- makes their strong statement about how they will show up to the people who look down on them, and now they are sharpening their swords. They also talk about how they have no fear and dare people to throw them stones if they have done as much as BTS did. There are more bold statements done by the rapper line, J-hope and RM. In J-hope’s lyrics, he says that though his profile had nothing on it, now he’s in major. Then, RM, also known as Rap Monster, just like his name can beat anything just like a monster, and even though he’s receiving criticism because of his twisted turn to become an idol, he wants to show people that he beat the impossible thing he was told. This strong sense of hip hop in “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” can be seen, and it happened because of the work of several musicians along with BTS’ members themselves. “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2” was written by Pdogg, “Hitman” Bang, Supreme Boi, RM, and Suga.
